I’m not sure what I think of this book。 I read a translated version and maybe that affected how I saw it。 It started getting a little more acceptable as it went on but all in all it was whatever。 Maybe a 2。5？

Holly Golightly really is one of the most amazing eccentric characters to ever been written。 I love how the movie almost completely copied her from the book， Capote really made her come to life and it was just a great bittersweet read。

My first Capote was this glittering but often garish gem of a story。 Really a character study， Tiffany's is as much a time capsule as it is a timeless classic about a glamorous girl fated for obscurity。 Holly Golightly is now an iconic creation that has been reimagined and interpreted through countless iterations。 The author meant for Marilyn Monroe to play her but Audrey Hepburn immortalized her image as a flighty and frivolous figure with dreams of decadence but condemned to a listless life of My first Capote was this glittering but often garish gem of a story。 Really a character study， Tiffany's is as much a time capsule as it is a timeless classic about a glamorous girl fated for obscurity。 Holly Golightly is now an iconic creation that has been reimagined and interpreted through countless iterations。 The author meant for Marilyn Monroe to play her but Audrey Hepburn immortalized her image as a flighty and frivolous figure with dreams of decadence but condemned to a listless life of rootless whimsy。 She is a fascinating subject as we slowly get to know the secrets behind the facade she has built for herself。 She is as mysterious and aloof as her nondescript brownstone。 Even her orange cat is a nameless embellishment that doesn't truly belong to her。 The prose is harsh and unfettered while still managing a casual elegance akin to its protagonist。 Capote uses an even more unknowable narrator that Holly calls Fred as the lens through which we view this dazzling disaster of a woman。 She's actually only a girl and her descriptors conjured more of an Edie Sedgwick facsimile than they did an impression of Marilyn but the process of working out who this young lady is and what makes her tick was a bemusing trip through New York City in the forties。 There are plenty of glaring terms of the time that feel authentic to the period but are off-putting by today's standards。 If you can get past the offensive vernacular， there is something wistful and tender at its core。 Breakfast at Tiffany's does not seem particularly revolutionary now but in its time， a story with such a comprehensive cast that accurately reflects the diversity of a city like New York would have been boldly progressive。 This is clearly indicated by the changes made for the film。 I certainly plan on reading more of Capote's work and this was a charming and almost haunting portrait that served me well as an introduction to this classic queer author and his signature style。 Tiffany's is a worthy addition to the canon of American Literature that memorializes a glamorous but stilted setting in all its glitz and grime。 。。。more

I am so heavily influenced by the film， I couldn’t judge this novella objectively。 I’m rounding up。 I have to wonder what it would have been like to read it before watching the movie。 I can tell you， though， should you want to explore the writing， do just that。 The audiobook doesn’t do it justice。 The narrator is completely off the mark with the voice of Holly Golightly， I don’t doubt Capote and Hepburn （my idol）， were rolling in their graves。
